Elephants on the Loose?

Yesterday on my way home from work, I drove through white-out conditions. During this sideways snow, a major accident happened on I 70.  When I watched the news later in the evening, I caught this story:

Yes folks, in the dead of winter, on a lonesome stretch of highway, elephants.  Three elephants!  While the elephants did not run loose amidst the larger accident scene, just the idea that they could sparked an idea.  My imagination went wild.  I felt that rush of inspiration. 

What would you do if you saw an elephant standing right outside your car window?  In the middle of a blinding snow?

I'm filing this one away.  I hope to use it in a short story or even in a novel.  Elephants!  How cool is that?
